Kinda Sad
Clint Weathers

It’s kinda sad that she doesn’t know.
She never ever sees it
When she looks in the mirror.
Hunching over a laptop,
Nose shoved into a book.
She can ignore it that way.
Don’t get distracted
Don’t go off track.
That way it never has to show.
She wouldn’t believe anyone
Who told her anyhow.
She would feign annoyance,
And try to look offended.
But later
When she’s all alone
She’ll hear the words again:
“You are beautiful.”
And deeply
All the way down,
Smile.
