free tonight
Elissa Garman

My eyes fall
safe tonight
and minutes
are
calm enough
to
explore
new ways
of avoiding
routine direction.
Tossing my stage
to unfamiliar setting—
where a posted sign reads:
“heavy days unravel here”
chaos
paints deep colors
and
the tones fly
blending together
shaping a mural
sensitive to magnitude
in full view at night it appears
when city lights
are weak
from the day.
