oh girl
Maud Coulter

Oh girl,
You be walking on corn shells,
Blistering up your heels.
He's gonna keep on choking your throat like that
With big hands and dirty nails.
Your feet, they're messy from the earth,
From chasing after him like that.

Listen to your mama,
Her heart has been broke.
She knows the stench of a man
Who has got nothing good up his sleeve.

Your eyes girl, your brown eyes.
He's clouded them up with his breath.
Those muscles of his make black bruises
Above your cheeks,
And bumps along your spine.

Oh girl,
Where's your brave sister?
The one that chased after butterflies
With open arms under the sun?
You go find her,
Find her strength...
And bring her back to you.
