Haute Dish is published three times a
year. We will begin accepting submissions for the Summer 2006
issue on February 1. The deadline is April 1. Submissions
for the Summer Issue are open to all Metro State students,
alumni, faculty and staff. Send us your best work!
On behalf of the Haute Dish staff and
Metropolitan State University, let me personally welcome you
to the Spring 2006 edition of Haute Dish. This issue is dedicated
to all artists who have the courage to submit their work for
consideration. Creating art is not easy. And being judged
by others is even harder. But someone once said, “If
you don’t try, you will fail 100% of the time.”
So thank you for risking yourselves and your work. It is only
in risking ourselves that we are ever free.
In this issue we decided to do away with
having a theme, and instead, we issued a challenge: In 250
words or less, write a piece that starts with: “Is this
for sale?” We challenged you, and you responded. Thanks
to all who took this on. Visit the Challenge Prompt page to
view entries that were selected for inclusion.
As outgoing editor, I’d like to
say thank you for this opportunity to be part of this creative
endeavor for the past four issues. My thanks to a perceptive
and talented staff that has made Haute Dish the high quality
publication that it is: Associate Editors Josiah Titus,
Erin Hoffman, Matthew Spillum, Steven Shea, Nate Thomas,
and Arts Editor Diane Bennion. Special thanks
to our great webmaster Felicia Chong, who
produced the pages you are viewing here. And thanks to our
wonderful advisor, writer and teacher Suzanne Nielsen,
for her unflagging counsel, patience and time. I’d also
like to thank my predecessor past editor Clint Weathers
for his generous spirit, leadership and enthusiasm for this
awesome project! Every great undertaking needs a driving force
and Clint was our driving force from the start. We wish him
well in his future artistic and educational pursuits.
Thanks also to my instructors who have
supported me in my pursuit of writing—technical as well
as creative-- and created a great educational experience for
me over the past three years at Metro: Dr. Brian Nerney,
Alison McGhee, Dr. Helen Correll, Dr. Craig Hansen, Dr. Anne
Aronson and Susan Perry. It’s been my pleasure
working with you all.
Please welcome incoming Managing Editor
Nate Thomas. Nate’s poetry is featured in this issue
of Haute Dish. He also conducted our artist spotlight which
appears under the Arts Community link. Nate will be taking
Haute Dish into the next year and asking you to send in your
best work.
