Submitting your work to Haute Dish is easy!  (Just follow these simple rules.)

Who Can Submit:
Students currently enrolled at Metro State at the undergraduate or graduate level may submit to any issue. Alumni, staff, and faculty may submit to our Fall issue (August deadline) only.

Submission Guidelines:
Submissions are accepted year-round; however, our deadline for each issue is firm. If you submit after the deadline has passed, your work will be considered for the following issue.

We generally accept submissions only by email. However, if you have extenuating circumstances or a large video, audio, or multimedia piece, please contact us to make arrangements – we’re flexible.

Literary Submissions:
Poetry: maximum 70 lines
Fiction, creative nonfiction, essays: maximum 2000 words
Submit all written pieces either in the body of your email, or in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format.

**Poorly copyedited work, no matter how brilliant or creative, often gets rejected, so please make sure your writing is free of spelling and grammatical errors.**

Other Submissions:
Photographs: .jpg format, no date-stamps
Paintings, drawings, illustrations: .jpg, .pdf, .bmp format (other formats possible as well – contact us with questions)
Comics: maximum 9 panels
Graphic stories: maximum 5 pages
Music & video submissions: we are open to different formats - please contact us with questions

ALL Submissions:
  • You may submit up to three (3) pieces in any given genre, and no more than four (4) submissions total.
  • All submissions MUST have a title to be considered.
  • Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but we are unable to publish anything that has been published elsewhere, online or in print.
Please make sure to include the following in your email:
  • Your name
  • Your status at Metropolitan State (current students only for this issue, please)
  • A short third-person bio (max. 150 words)
  • Title(s) and genre(s) of all submitted pieces

Now What?

After the deadline, the editorial staff will take 2-3 weeks to review and discuss submissions. You can expect to hear back from us at that time.
