Diane, our Art Editor, had a pot-bellied
pig when she lived in California. As a pet. In her house.
And one Sunday we were meeting for bagels
and business with the Haute Dish staff and Diane started telling
stories about the pig and its exploits and various foul odors
it would emit, things it would chew, and before long we were
all laughing ourselves into hysterics.
At the next meeting, Suzanne showed up
with little plastic pigs for everyone, and the hook was set.
It’s as simple as that, really.
The pig represents the fun and work and frustration and fear
and joy and mutual respect and most of all the friendship
that has happened during the first year of rebuilding Haute
Dish.
